The world is changing. Hundreds of towns and cities have realised they can’t continue adding more and more cars to their congested, polluted streets.
All over the world, pavements are being improved and cycle lanes added. It’s working – people are changing to walking or cycling for short journeys.
Our vision is for everyone in Northampton to have realistic options to safely, easily and conveniently walk or cycle for short journeys.

“Traffic is not a force of nature. It is a product of people’s choices. If you make it easier and safer to walk and cycle, more people choose to walk and cycle instead of driving, and the traffic falls overall.”

Northampton needs safe crossings and pavements

To get more people to walk or cycle, routes need to both be and feel safe and convenient.
Northampton needs segregated cycle lanes

Towns with proper cycle lanes, segregated from traffic and pedestrians, have many more journeys made by bike.
Northampton needs LTNs and School Streets

Closing off rat-runs and implementing School Streets is proving highly effective in other towns for increasing walking and cycling.

Lots of people cycle in the hilly city of San Francisco, because the city continues to install properly separated cycle lanes.
