King Edward Road
We agree with making King Edward Road accessible by foot and cycle only at this junction. It’s a dangerous junction and this will improve it considerably.
However, it is essential to properly promote active travel at King Edward Road by:
- Using careful design and bollard placement at the end of King Edward Road to ensure that it does not allow parking, as this would block cycle access – we should be careful not to repeat mistakes made elsewhere in Northampton.
- Providing dropped kerbs from Park Avenue South into King Edward Road, to accommodate people cycling from King Edward Road and turning left into Park Avenue.
- Making it clear that King Edward Road is open for walking, wheeling and cycling.
- Planting trees in King Edward Road to attract people who are walking, wheeling or cycling.
Abington Park Crescent (at Park Ave S junction)
We’re in favour of the one-way idea if it can be achieved without increasing traffic in Landcross Drive.
Abington Park Crescent (Bridgewater Drive to Wellingborough Road)
A segregated cycle path should be provided all the way to Wellingborough Road to make this a meaningful scheme.
Norman Road
A contraflow cycle lane is needed here in order to make the scheme meaningful, as this opens up the route to this dense residential area, continuing along Birchfield Road and Beech Avenue to Bradlaugh Fields, which offers low-traffic routes to both Kingsthorpe and Moulton Park.
