We need to encourage the use of public transport as much as possible in order to relieve congestion, lower air pollution, and reduce CO2 emissions. Every regeneration proposal is an opportunity to create new active travel routes.
The Chalk Lane proposal is a perfect opportunity to create a signed walking route from the train station to the bus station – an essential route for people arriving by train and continuing to anywhere in Northampton by public transport.
Our proposed walking route via Chalk Lane is 20% shorter than going up Marefair, Gold St and College St and will be a good way to show off the castle and the new park. There’s a crossing on Horsemarket on the route too.
We’ve proposed this to the relevant council officers.
